When I was starting out freelancing, I was lost in the variety of terms or job descriptions on job postings across the web.

“Webmaster”, “Web Administrator”, “Web Designer” and “Web Developer”

So what’s the difference?

Web Developer
Anything that needs programmimg such as developing applications in web standards such as PHP, then you’re looking for a web developer. These are the people who make a website run. They take a design from the designer, chop it up into its segments and put up a working website.

Web Designer - Design
No coding needed but should be artistically inclined. Great with design and colors and can think out of the box. When you first drop b a webpage and at first glance makes you go WOW with the look - that’s the Web Designers job.

Web Administrator
These are the people who handle the server. Fixing IP problems. Setup email, sybdomains, mysql databases ans server status. If it’s something to do with the server then call the web administrator!

Web Master
The person that keeps the site running. This person needs to be at least have a basic understanding of the other jobs in this list. Also known as the “do it all”. Most likely to be doing the daily, weekly updates of a site. The person who handles all the general email that comes in.
Just a quick note and hope that helps some of you out there. We here at Rx Web Services specialize in WebMaster Services and Web Development.
